It may be a day late, but here it is. My interview with Aaron Asham…
I’ve actually been back and forth from Philadelphia and Long Island so I’ve just been working hard and getting ready for the season. Well, obviously we’ve got Pronger here so everyone’s excited, we’re looking at a pretty good season. So I’ve just been training, getting ready for it.
That was actually going to be my next question. What do you think of all the new additions to the team for the upcoming season?
We’re looking good. We’ve got one of the most solid defensemen in the league. When we signed him, I know I’m excited. I know all my teammates are excited about it. We got Ray coming in and he’s obviously proved himself going to the Stanley Cup Finals with Ottawa. Everyone’s excited, we have a great team, we have a great chance to do some nice things and everyone’s excited about it.
How do you feel about your role with the team? Has there been any talk about where you’re gonna be? I don’t wanna ask about lines and pairings and things like that.
I don’t know what they have planned for me. I’m in probably the best shape I have been in in a long time and I think I can come in and put up some decent numbers, you know, I can score some goals but I’m always gonna be in there for my physical role. I’m good with my health, my hands are fine and mentally I’m fine. So I’m gonna come in there and help the team any way I can.
That was one thing I always said about you, you can play the physical role, but you also have a very powerful shot.
Yeah, I can definitely put up some decent numbers. I scored 15 goals in my career once and I would like to match that or even do better. I think the coaches, from what we’ve seen last year, have a little confidence in me and I’m just gonna go out there and go hard and do my job. I’m not coming in to the season thinking I’m gonna be a goal scorer. I’m gonna be one of the grinders, I’m gonna be one of the fighters on the team and I’m here to help morale as much as I can.
One last thing and I’ll let you get back to everything, do you have anything to say to the fans of Philadelphia out there?
The fans are unbelievable. It was probably tougher coming over because I was with Jersey, with the Devils a couple years ago, but I came over and it seems like the fans really opened up to me, it’s nice. The fans are very passionate and it’s one of the best places to play in hockey and I love it.
Thanks to Aaron for taking the time to answer my questions and thanks to you for reading.
Oh, and one last thank you. Thanks to Adam and Zach for taking a chance with a guy who had basicly no writing experience, but a huge love for the Flyers. You guys rock and I can’t thank you enough for the opportunity you’ve given me.
So, until next time, keep your chin up, your eye on the puck and you can never fail with high, stick side.
Oh, and if you haven’t already, I can also be found on Facebook (Paul Ca Pickett) and on Twitter (PaulakaBFTW).

Thanks for that. Usually we hear from the star players & I think Asham is a big part of our mix. He doesn’t get the same ink as a Richards or Carter but I view him as an important piece so it’s nice to hear his ideas.
I’ve been reading your spots for a while but things like this made me join. It’s good to hear what the lesser lights think. Keep up the good work!
Thanks flyerfan52.
I’m glad you decided to join.
Personally, I don’t care if it’s the team’s top scorer or a 4th line grinder. Every interview I get with a Flyers player is an honor and a privilege to me and I’ll continue to talk to as many players as I can to bring you and all of our other readers one step closer to the game.
