The Suit Is Complete…

AUTHOR: | IN: Flyers | COMMENTS: None Yet

In my attempts to find a story to write about, I found a bit of news to kick off this story about Emery’s new look. Four new contracts were handed out on Wednesday. Danny Syvret, defense man for the Phantoms last season, signed a one year deal. I wish I could get more info on his contract and as soon as I do I’ll post it. Syvret is loaded with skill and potential but his size, 5’11″ 200 lbs, could be a bit of a damper on his success in the National Hockey League. With his tremendous season last year, [...]

Man On The Street

AUTHOR: | IN: Flyers | COMMENTS: None Yet

Other than Kane getting arrested for hitting a cab driver, It’s been a pretty slow week as far as hockey news goes (at least for the Flyers that is). I could sit here and write about Chris Pronger arriving in Philadelphia. But that would be all of about two paragraphs and be generally boring unless you’re one of those obsessive fans who needs to know what Chris Pronger and the rest of the Flyers do every minute of every day. Just in case you are, Riley and Holly Cote checked out a Snoop Dog concert and the UFC event in [...]

“Jones”-in for a trade…

AUTHOR: | IN: Flyers | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

So with the signing of Ole-Kristian Tollefson I expected a three or four day lay off and then a trade of Randy Jones for a draft pick and/or a third line center. Well here we are, more than a week after, and no news of a trade or even a placement on waivers. I’m starting to believe that the market for skating defense man are running thin or there is a problem with Jones’ hips that we are unaware of. I mean seriously how hard is it to offload a defense man like Jones who when healthy could add a lot [...]

Army of Fun – Part 2

AUTHOR: | IN: Flyers | COMMENTS: 4 Comments

Last season, Joe Benzon, a friend of mine from the Flyers Message Boards (http://forums.philadelphiaflyers.com) put together an epic bus trip (sorry, I can’t think of any other word to explain it) out to Long Island to see a Flyers vs Islanders game. When you think of a “bus trip”, you think of around 50 people. Not this one my friends… Not by a long shot. The final count was well over 300 Flyers fans invading the island. Almost constant chants of, “Let’s Go Flyers,” could be heard around the arena and on the Comcast telecast of the game. Coatsey even interviewed [...]

The New Blood – Ole-Kristian Tollefsen

AUTHOR: | IN: Flyers | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

I wasn’t going to write about Tollefsen, but I don’t think I should leave him out. The main problem is, I can’t really figure out what to write about him career wise. So I’ll start with what I usually do. He’s 6′ 2″ tall, 211 pounds and 25 years old. He has 4 years of NHL experience with the Columbus Blue Jackets, but has only played 145 games in his career. The most being 70 in the 2006-2007 season and only 19 last season due to injury problems. Judging by his point totals, he’s not a scoring defenseman. Judging by his penalty [...]

Young Stars: Claude Giroux

AUTHOR: | IN: Flyers | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

This was another guy I was going to save for another time in the off season, but I caught the game that he made that amazing play to Gagne for the shortie in the playoffs. I you skipped the title we are talking about Claude Giroux. Now I know that there is no need to say this to most of you because you have seen it, but the raw talent and ability that Giroux shows is absolutely amazing. Me and Paul have talked about him on numerous occasions and every time we do we literally run out of adjectives to [...]

The New Blood – Chris Pronger

AUTHOR: | IN: Flyers | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

The first thing I had to say when I found out the Flyers got Pronger was, “I can’t believe we actually got a good return on a trade involving Lupul!” True, I wasn’t really excited that we lost Luca Sbisa. But, the two first round picks weren’t really a concern of mine. They were both in the 20′s so it wasn’t a big loss. We’ll just have to wait and see how they pan out for Anaheim. Okay, enough beating around the bush here. I’m gonna call this what it is. This is, without a doubt, one of the best deals the [...]

A Look into ProngerGate…

AUTHOR: | IN: Flyers | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

When I read Paul’s post about this whole thing, I was flabbergasted that all of a sudden there will be investigations into Hossa’s and Pronger’s contracts. Let’s take a look at the pieces that I believe are missing from the puzzle. First of all how many times in the last 10 years have veteran players gotten long term, front loaded contracts? What made the NHL want to just jump up now and investigate these two players? I can understand the economy is in a bad spot and everyone is pretty much crying wolf about the salary cap will drop. Yes [...]
