Okay, before my head explodes, here’s the scoring breakdown…
Aaron Asham converted on a turnover created by, first game back, James vanRiemsdyk in the Florida zone to give the Flyers an early 1-0 lead.
Just under seven minutes into the second period, a horrible slashing penalty by Chris Pronger led to a Panthers power play. Nine seconds in, Stephen Weiss gets one through traffic and past Ray Emery to tie the game at one a piece. Just past the twelve minute mark, Claude Giroux would net his first of the season on a wrister that just rolled over the goal line to [...]

Weekly Wrap-Up
I really have to work on my motivation. It’s not so much that I’m a procrastinator (but I am), but with other things going on (Phillies, getting the radio show set up, finding guests, etc), I sometimes have a hard time getting motivated to write. That should change soon though, once I start getting my once-a-month motivation.
But we’re here to talk Flyers hockey! *cheers* So let’s look at last week. *groans*
Record: 1-1-1
Teams: Capitals (W), Penguins (L) and Ducks (SOL)
Goals Scored: 12
Goals Against: 12
Most Points: Mike Richards, Jeff Carter and Matt Carle (6)
Richards has shown why he’s the man with the “C” [...]
New Feature
I’m running a little late with the weekly wrap-up (thanks for the 10pm Phillies game MLB), but, while I was fighting to keep my eyes open, I was inspired to start our own online radio show.
Starting October 30th, there will be a weekly show on blogtalkradio.com, covering Flyers hockey (news, notes, stats, games, etc). Here are a couple things about the show:
1. The show will never be on a game day.
2. The show will never be on a Sunday… EVER!
3. The time of the show will vary, but will never start before 6pm and never after 10pm. Unless it’s on [...]
10/10 vs Anahiem Ducks
The Flyers came into the night looking to rebound from a 5-4 loss to Pittsburgh on Thursday against the Anahiem Ducks.
The Ducks swam into Philly on the back of a 6-1 win over Boston, hoping to ride that momentum into the Wachovia Center.
During the first period it seemed the Flyers were setting the pace of the game, outshooting the Ducks 14-7 with the only tally being from Captain Mike Richards on the power play. Claude Giroux, camping behind the red line, connected with Richards who was poised in the faceoff circle and beat Ducks goalie Jonas Hiller on the glove side. This was [...]
10/8 vs Pittsburgh Penguins
With all the history that has been made so far this season from a franchise standpoint, you wouldn’t think there was much left to be done. However, Ray Emery was looking to become the first goaltender in Flyers history to start the first 4 games of the season and win them all. Unfortunately, the 4th game was against the Pittsburgh Penguins who lost last night to the Phoenix Coyotes, 3-0. Many people expected another shootout game, resembling the 6-5 OT win on Tuesday, and they weren’t disappointed.
A questionable penalty in the first minute by Tuesday’s game winner, Daniel Briere, put the [...]
Quick Update
As we all know from Paul’s post, we will be without the services of Blair Betts for at least a month. I think this is going to hit the team hard, but, if they are smart about the roster they will have Arron Asham take the spot and NOT Riley Cote. Listen, I get that Cote is a huge fan favorite ’cause he fights and checks and stirs the pot but in all reality he is just a liability for bad calls. Asham didn’t earn the nickname Smash ‘em Asham without a good edge to his game. He has the [...]
But I’m pretty sure I told you so.
19,567 of the most intimidating fans in hockey, flocked to the Wachovia Center tonight to welcome home their 2-0-0 Philadelphia Flyers. Actually, I should say 19,566 and I. This was my first Flyers home opener and during the pre-game warm-up, all I could say to Gutter and Rifle (FMB friends) was, “This thing needs to start already!”
The first period was a fine demonstration of goaltending by Ray Emery and Washington’s number two net minder, Semyon Varlamov. With Washington having the edge in shots, 14-11.
The second period turned into a game of, [...]
Another Night Of History
As I was on my way home from watching the game, I came upon a realization. We are three games into the season, THREE, and we have already broken records. Not meaningless, dumb, just-because-it’s-cool-to-hear ones either. First it was opening the season with two straight road wins. Tonight it was Matt Carle of all people and our captain Mike Richards. The game tonight had everything and I literally mean EVERYTHING except for a shorthanded goal. But, I think many could figure that out seeing a final of 6-5 in overtime.
Mike Richards opened the record books to become the first Flyer [...]
