I wanted to get this up last night, but I’m still trying to pick up all the pieces of what happened on Saturday and I’m not just talking about what happened on the ice.
So the first two games of the regular season are in the books.
What have we learned?
1. Who’s still worried about Ray Emery?
“Razor” is back and showing the style and poise that led the Ottawa Senators to the Stanley Cup Finals just 3 years ago. His season opening shut-out over the Carolina Hurricanes opened some eyes and had some others calling it a fluke. So what did he do? Emery went to the Prudential Center, where the Flyers had only won once in their past 5 tries, and stopped 24 of 26 shots as the Flyers seemingly cruised to a 5-2 victory. 2 wins on back to back nights by the same netminder. As if that wasn’t enough, Emery made Flyers history being the 1st Flyers netminder to start 2-0 on the road.
2. It’s van-reems-dike, not van-rhymes-dike.
Where did this kid come from? After not being sure about his hockey career last season, James vanRiemsdyk has gone from goal scorer (4 in the rookie game vs Washington) to playmaker. 3 helpers in 2 games to Captain Mike Richards, Darroll Powe and unlikely scorer Ian Laperriere. JVR has shown there’s more to his offensive game than just denting the twine.
3. Competition? What competition?
Yes, I’m rehashing old titles, but just this once. In the first 2 games, Mika Pyorala has been almost non-existent. He’s a +1 with one shot on goal.
4. Who says plus/minus isn’t a valid stat?
There is no player on the Flyers with a negative plus/minus after the first week ranging from 0 to 3.
The Flyers have off tonight before their home opener on Tuesday against the always dangerous, and also undefeated, Washington Capitals. Sorry Ovechkin, no respect on the menu tomorrow. It’s all about the Orange and Black as 19,000 plus rabid Flyers fans will be rocking the Wachovia Center.
I’ll do my post-game wrap up of the Flyers/Caps game tomorrow night after my autograph hunting is over, should be around 1-2am EST.
Until then, keep your chin up, your eyes on the puck and you can never go wrong with high to the stick side.

Great wrap up!
The scenario that took place after the game was sickening. Jeff's statement is spot on, even though I really wish it wasn't. I really wish our fans would learn beating each other/other peoples fans, & doing stupid crap is not helping our reputation! We can "intimidate" without the violence! There's no need for it, especially against each other! I hope those that were injured pull through, & justice is served to those who started both altercations, & no repercussions come back on Joe, or the bus company because they had nothing to do with either altercation.
