Another Night Of History

AUTHOR: Justin Everitt | IN: Flyers | COMMENTS: 1 Comment |

As I was on my way home from watching the game, I came upon a realization. We are three games into the season, THREE, and we have already broken records. Not meaningless, dumb, just-because-it’s-cool-to-hear ones either. First it was opening the season with two straight road wins. Tonight it was Matt Carle of all people and our captain Mike Richards. The game tonight had everything and I literally mean EVERYTHING except for a shorthanded goal. But, I think many could figure that out seeing a final of 6-5 in overtime.

Mike Richards opened the record books to become the first Flyer to score a hat trick in a home opener. Adding a great effort defensively, Richards earned his first star of the game. After we all jumped and threw our hats for Richie’s goals, we became aware that Matt Carle had just registered his 4th assist of the second period. He became the only Flyers defenseman to register 4 assists in one period. I know, Matt Carle, come on right? But like I said in previous posts, I don’t know if it’s playing with Pronger or realizing his play had to pick up but he has been impressive. I’ll keep this wrap short for you guys as I’m sure most of you saw it but I do have to say this was a great game. Happy Birthday Danny Briere. What gift could have been better than scoring the OT winner to make your team 3-0-0? None that I can think of, especially turning 32 and running into the downside of his career age-wise. Hopefully we get play like this for the next 5 years, then I’ll agree with Paul about how good he is. Well, until next time, have a good night and LETS GO FLYERS!!!

  1. Paul Pickett says:

I’ll tell you what, Justin. Danny almost made me cry tonight. For the first 55 minutes of the game, it seemed like he couldn’t do anything right. But then at the end of regulation and overtime, he played like a different person.

    And yeah…

    Matt frickin’ Carle! :D

People laughed, laughed I tell you when I said I was happy about bringing him in. People told me I was out of my gourd when I said I hoped he’d be paired with Prongs on D.

He’s leading the team in assists, points, +/- and has no penalty minutes.

I’m not laughing, but I sure am smiling. :D
