I wanted to get this up last night, but I’m still trying to pick up all the pieces of what happened on Saturday and I’m not just talking about what happened on the ice.
So the first two games of the regular season are in the books.
What have we learned?
1. Who’s still worried about Ray Emery?
“Razor” is back and showing the style and poise that led the Ottawa Senators to the Stanley Cup Finals just 3 years ago. His season opening shut-out over the Carolina Hurricanes opened some eyes and had some others calling it a fluke. So what did he do? [...]

Weekly Wrap-Up and More
Originally I had planned not to do one of these segments on JVR but after much consideration I have settled on his deserving of his own. I’m not saying he has been amazingly impressive but I do have to give him his own after 3 points in two games to open the season. As we all know by now I’m not very fond of the 2nd overall pick in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. I thought there were quite a few guys taken after him that were much better and obviously the guy that preceded him in the draft, Patrick [...]
History in the Making
As if a 2-0 shutout win wasn’t enough for the Flyers, tonight history was made. The Flyers had only one win in the last 5 trips to New Jersey, but with a second win tonight this because the first season in franchise history that the Flyers opened with two road wins. The 5-2 victory put our boys up to 2-0-0 on the season and really planted them in the conversations about early favorites. Without a doubt this was one of the biggest statements that could have been made all year. Hopefully this game was only a sign of things to [...]
Hey, Hey, It’s All About Ray
Over 18 months away from the National Hockey League didn’t damper the play of Ray Emery what so ever. I almost wasn’t able to write tonight because Direct TV decided to black out the game on center ice. Made me a little angry so I used some google magic and found a site that was streaming it live. Our boys went 2-for-6 on the power-play tonight on a PPG by both Jeff Carter and Mike Richards. The guys were absolutely brilliant on the PK giving up no goals (obviously) and looking rather strong in all situations. But, as good as [...]
This just in, Blair Betts has signed a 1 year deal, terms undisclosed but probably in the area of $650,000, with the Flyers. This will probably send Powe back to the Phantoms to clear a roster spot for Betts. He’ll take his spot as the center on the 4th line and work heavily on the penalty kill unit.
Also, Ole-Kristian Tollefsen has been placed on the 7 day injured reserve list with a hip problem. Marc-Andre Bourdon has been brought up to fill the spot, but will not play unless there’s an injury.
Before I Forget…
While this is a Flyers page, I am an overall Philly fan spanning the 4 major sports. So I feel I have to say congratulations to the reigning National League East champions, the Philadelphia Phillies who locked up the division last night.
Also, it just wouldn’t be proper if I didn’t recognize one of the guys off the ice, Jim Jackson. “Double J” took home a Mid-Atlantic Emmy Award for excellence in the Sports Analyst/Play-By-Play category this week. He was one of many from Comcast Sportsnet who were honored for their work.
Pre-Season Wrap Up and More
First, let me apologize for not getting this written last night. I’ve been having trouble sleeping for the past week or so and it caught up to me while watching Ghost Hunters with my daughter. However, I finally got a good night’s sleep, but my neck is killing because I got it on the living room floor with no pillow.
So, what do we have here? Tuesday night’s OTL to the Minnesota Wild dropped their pre-season record to 2-3-2. That’s 2-1-1 at home and 0-2-1 on the road. While you can’t gauge much from the pre-season, here are a couple things [...]
