Pronger Skating Again

Chris Pronger had knee surgery after the season, and wasn’t expected to join the team until either the end of training camp or the start of the regular season. Nobody seemed too concerned, because Pronger is a vet that always shows up in shape, and ready to go.  Now, he’s back at practice and a bit ahead of schedule.  But how worried should we really be?

I hope he’s not rushing back and isn’t putting himself into a dangerous situation.  We know very well that he’s hated across the league, and people will try to go after him. Normally that’s not an issue, because he see’s hits coming, and 99% of the time can move out of the way.  He’s not the most agile guy, and if he’s even more limited, that hurts him and the team.  Our brilliant group of defensemen loses a lot of luster if he is out of the lineup.  With him around, we look a lot more impenetrable.

As of now, he’s not participating in contact drills, mostly just skating.  He’s trying to make sure the knee is strong enough to play on.  I’m sure he’s doing everything possible to make sure that he’s ready, and hoepfully will be fine. I hate when athletes come back early, re-injure themselves, miss more time, and basically repeat the cycle.  Take your time, get yourself as close to 100% as possible, and then get out there and raise some hell.

  • Correction: In yesterday’s post I mentioned that there would be a game last night. That game is actually tonight.
  • Jim Jackson is sporting a new goatee this season, after he shaved off his famous mustache last year for charity. Maybe the power of the Jackson jinx was shaved off, and the goat brings us more luck. Let’s hope so.
  • The line combo’s that were reported for the start of training camp have been completely reshuffled. Of course, a lot of this has to do with injuries, players trying out, and just experimentation by the coach.  I think we can stop with the guessing game until training camp is over. But for now, Richards-Carter-Zherdev does sound pretty intriguing. Hell, anything that keeps Carcillo off of Richards’ line is already an improvement.
  • Speaking of car-bomb, is he even on the team anymore? I don’t hear anything about him in news reports anymore. If he plays tonight, I’d expect him to drop the gloves or try to do something to stay on the radar.
