Ok, it’s still early, there’s still time, bla bla bla. Like last season, Pittsburgh lit us up. Like last season, we had a steady parade to the penalty box. And like last year, our potent offense remains dormant. That’s not a formula that you want to repeat to be successful.
This team needs to get their shit together asap. Aside from Gagne, we’ve lost nothing in terms of important players. Yes he was important, but he didn’t completely carry our team. I don’t see the hunger that we know this team is capable of. I don’t see the attitude that this team had in the playoffs last year. I know these games aren’t of the same importance as a playoff game. But dammit, you gotta earn the right to get to the playoffs first. I know in Philadelphia we’re all psyched up about the Eagles (Yeah!) and especially the Phillies (Hell yeah!). Lack of interest right now is not a valid excuse.
Normally, I’m not a fan of line shuffling. But this team needs a spark. I know it’s hard for every guy to get up for 82 games. There will be stretches where everyone plays like shit. But this seems to happen too damn often to this team. We have slumps here and there, and end up scrambling at the season. Last year, we were dead tired by the time the finals rolled around. Remember back to that Eastern Finals against Tampa? The team was completely spent by the end of that series. Why can’t we have a solid, consistent season, where we make the playoffs with 2 weeks to go?
This team has way too much talent on paper to be playing this shitty. They have the leadership, the skill, the toughness, and solid overall mix of guys that teams need to be successful. But you need to prove it on the ice, and they aren’t doing that right now. We’ve got a couple of teams looking to rebound after a bad year last year coming to town (Anaheim and Toronto) and we need to make them our bitches.
I got nothing else now. Goodnight.
