Question: What do Jeff Carter, Danny Briere, Scott Hartnell, Mike Richards, and Nikolai Zherdev all have in common?
Answer: They all scored tonight (Carts x3, Briere x2) en route to a severe public flogging of a group of people known as the Carolina Hurricanes.
The Flyers had to overcome some adversity in this, after having their first goal disallowed. Hartnell crashed the net, and directed a pass in with his foot. The idiots in Toronto ruled it a kicking motion, and we went back to 0-0. Luckily, we managed to put in 8 of the next 9 goals to seal the win. With all of this action, it’s going to get a bit boring if I review it all for you. If you missed it, here’s the recap, and here’s the box score.
I’d have to really nitpick about specific details if I wanted to bitch about anything. It’s just a shame that Sergei Bobrovsky didn’t get the shutout; he deserved it.
Obviously, everything worked on offense. We scored on the powerplay, at even strength, and even shorthanded. Right after Richards whiffed on yet another shorthanded breakaway, Giroux stole the clearing attempt and fed the captain for an easy one timer.
I didn’t see this one coming at all, especially after the way the ‘Canes destroyed the Oilers in their last game. They hustled, but looked like amateurs most of the night. The Flyers must have had a dozen odd man rushes, and had a very, very easy time transitioning all night from defense ot offense.
Lastly, let’s give props to Jeff Carter for his second career hat trick. I was driving home as the game was about to start, and Bundy was talking about a conversation he had with Carolina d-man Joni Pitkanen in which he asked who he thought the most dangerous Flyer is. His response: Jeff Carter. That was pretty interesting, given that Carter hasn’t exactly been burning up the league this year, or even last year. Looks like he proved his mettle on this night. So, once again, props!
