Flyers Heading to Red Light District

We’re starting to look like the Flyers of last season. Win a few, lose a few, slowly tumble in the standings. At the end of October, the Penguins had 13 points, and we had 13. On month later, they had 34, and we had 34. We went 9-2-2, and didn’t manage to pull away at all? And as of last night, we’re behind them by 2 points. I know, they’re streaking and Crosby is on fire, and they’ll come back to Earth too. But this weekend, is a weekend set up perfectly for us.

We’ve lost our scoring touch, and guys are losing confidence a bit. They’re starting to press more, and get more frustrated. Luckily, we’ve got a couple of cupcakes this weekend. And really, what better way to get out of a funk than to have some cake? On Saturday we’ve got the Devils, and Sunday we go up the turnpike, around the Belt Parkway, past a few pizzerias, get lost when we take the wrong exit, finally turn on the navigation system, and arrive in NY to take on the Islanders. Both games are 1:00, meaning some extra early wake-ups for a few guys.

First up, New Jersey. I know we lost to them last week. I don’t care. That was not the real Flyers. That was a lethargic group of bitches. Tomorrow, the Flyers offense will explode. I don’t care if Brodeur is back in net, or if it’s some other Jersey boy. They just got spanked by Montreal 5-1 last night, and there’s no way we can’t match that. I’m expecting  no more than 2 goals against. As for the offense, we’re scoring at least 4 goals.  I cannot imagine this Devils team holding us down, when almost everyone else has an easy time with them. They are a joke. They have no defense, no idea how to get the few talented offensive players on their team going, and no chance against us.

And if anyone sucks worse than New Jersey, it’s the Isles.  They ended October with a 4 game losing streak. Then they outdid themselves in November by continuing the misery with a 10 game losing streak, making it 14 overall.  They won 1 game, the last game of the month, against guess who: the Devils! And last night, they put of a good fight, in another losing effort, against the Rangers. They face the Rags again tonight, so they should be a bit worn out when we play them.  Once again, anything short of a big, regulation victory, will be a severe disappointment. We are way too talented to play down to their level, and over the last few years, we haven’t.  We already beat them twice this year, and should be able to again. Although I expect a bit of a tougher game than the Devils, probably a bit lower scoring, it should be another win.

With the Pens only playing one game this weekend, and probably getting the win against Columbus, we should be tied for first again.  More importantly, if things go well, our offense should start burning out the red light again.
