Calling Chris Hansen

Tonight, we get the rare opportunity to see the Flyers play against the Nashville Predators.  It’s the only time we’ll see them this season. We play them so damn rarely, I forget they exist. And yet, somehow, they’re always one of the better teams in the league. Somehow, they’re always freaking good. And they mostly do it without a ton of superstars.  Barry Trotz has been their coach for their entire existence, so their style of play has largely remained unchanged. In a recent poll of NHL players, the Preds were voted as the most underrated team.

Because of their lack of stars, they rely heavily on balance and defense.  Everyone is expected to contribute. Sounds a bit like us right? They develop good, young players, but lose them to clubs with deeper pockets. And yet, they continue winning, despite playing in one of the tougher divisions in hockey. So, how do we make sure to beat them?

Well, despite their regular season success, they’ve never won a playoff round.  That’s where their lack of star power caught up to them. We have that star power.  Thus, this is one of those games where a cliche fits in: if you outwork them, you’ll win the game.  Really, that’s all it will take tonight. And of course, don’t spot them a 2 goal lead 1:20 into the game.
