Versteeg To The Flyers

Flyers fans are “gitty” across the globe today that the Philadelphia Flyers have acquired Kris Versteeg from the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Flyers are certainly setting themselves up to make a serious run for the Stanley Cup this year and acquiring Kris Versteeg will put them in a position to do just that! Versteeg was traded from the Toronto Maple Leafs for 1st and 3rd round draft picks in the 2011 draft.  This was a power move by the Flyers and the fans are ecstatic about what Versteeg is going to bring to this team. Not only does Versteeg bring more depth to the offense, he brings a Stanley cup ring and playoff experience. This trade has made a statement to fans and NHL teams that the Flyers have just become a stronger team offensively adding to the already offensive depth. Yes, the Flyers have given up draft picks but obviously the Flyers organization is focusing on this year and is currently not a team that’s rebuilding with youth.

Some are speculating that Versteeg will play with Mike Richards and that would surely be a powerful tandem. Wherever Versteeg plays, he is a good two-way player and will help the Flyers with their struggling power play. The Flyers will be Tampa Bay tonight to face the Bolts. This game is a must win and with Versteeg in the line-up I’m excited to see how he will contribute to this already talented team. Versteeg may be the missing piece to the special teams that clearly has been missing something.  Go Flyers!
