Picking Up the Pieces

Lately I’ve been all about gloom and doom with this team. I’m nervous because of this losing streak and their overall play. But I’m getting tired of being upset about this team.  It’s time to renew our spirits and get things together, starting tonight.

The Oilers come to town tonight.  They’re injured, down, and out.  Their only motivation is to play spoilers for the rest of the year.  That makes them the perfect victim to get the Flyers back to winning again. So I’ve decided to use random Linkin Park lyrics to set the tone.

“This is not the end, this is not the beginning”- This team has not fallen completely apart.  Their not ravaged by injuries, and they haven’t lost their mojo.  They’re just a bit off.  They are struggling, but it’s not the time to change everything.  It’s not time to start over, install new strategy and rebuild in the last month of the season.  It’s time to get back to basics, and just start working hard again.

“I need a little room to breathe, Cause I’m one step closer to the edge, And I’m about to break” – We don’t need to pressure this team.  We know what they’re capable of, they know it even better.  Nothing we say or do will really affect them on the ice.  Sit back, relax, and enjoy.  They’ve got a special order of tiger blood from Charlie Sheen, and they’re going to to unleash it soon. You know all this losing has pissed them off and it’s about to boil over.

“So give me reason to prove me wrong, to wash this memory clean
Let the floods cross the distance in your eyes
Give me reason to fill this hole, connect the space between
Let it be enough to reach the truth that lies across this new divide”
  – Take doubt, crumple it up, and throw it out.  Last year, this team was left for dead, and ended up giving us a roller coaster ride so thrilling that Kingda Ka is still jealous. No, this isn’t last year.  This journey is different.  But the players, for the most part, remain the same.  They all have experience.  They could practically taste the cool silver of the Stanley Cup. It was there, in their building, and instead it went home with somebody else. That team was good enough.  This team is better.  Give this team a chance to prove themselves, and we’ll all be smiling in the end.

“I wanna heal, I wanna feel
Like I’m close to something real
I wanna find something I?ve wanted all along
Somewhere I belong”
– Stanley Cup is ours. Period.  It’s in our near future.  Expect nothing less.  Nothing less is acceptable.
