Dream Killers, Attempt 2

With 6 games left on their schedule, the Devils sit 12 points out of a playoff spot. That means they must win out, and everyone ahead must lose out for them to somehow sneak in. Fat chance.A single point is all that Buffalo and the Rags need to eliminate New Jersey.  Instead, I want the pleasure of doing that. Last night we had a chance to crush Atlanta’s dreams, and we failed. Tonight, we get another chance to do that.  Tonight would be a bit sweeter, since I hate NJ so much.  All season long I’ve been laughing at them.  Then they went on a nice little run, gave us a bit of a scare, before ultimately running out of gas.

If we can get the win tonight, it would be two straight years that we would end their season.  Sure, kicking their asses in 5 games in the playoffs is much more fun, but this is still nice. This franchise kicked our asses for so long, that it’s nice to finally turn the tables on them. The fact that they brought back the most boring coach ever, the one who tormented the entire league for almost 20 years with his mind-numbingly boring trap defense, will make it even more fun if we can get the win.

We’re going to need a really good offensive effort tonight to do it. They’ve given up more than 3 goals once in their last 24 games. But they haven’t done much scoring on their own part.  They’re winning games the usual Devils way: close, low scoring, lock-down defense. We’re going to have to play very smart, very focused to win tonight.  If we let them get any kind of lead, we can almost kiss the game good-bye, unless…

Unless we forecheck the hell out of them. We know they won’t give us much time and space. We’ve got to fight them for everything we can get. We have to skate through them, and get the puck into the corners quickly. We need to hit them and make them turn the puck over. Old man Brodeur is back in net for them. We exposed him last year, and he had a horrible start to this year. His numbers are better lately, but i think it’s more because of the team effort in front of him. He’s not washed up, but he doesn’t scare me like he used to. I’m done making predictions for the regular season, so let’s just hope the real Flyers show up and put the Devils’ out of their playoff hopeful misery.
