Last night was horrible, and left a sick feeling in my stomach that I haven’t felt since…Friday. What the hell has this team turned into? We can’t beat anybody anymore. We can’t hold leads against Ottawa. OTTAWA!?!?!?!? Are you kidding me? Richards scores on a powerplay a few minutes into the game, and we give it right back before the period ends. And somehow we manage only 5 shots in the first against a team that isn’t really playing lock down defense. Then Richards scores another one at extra strength, and we give them a pair of goals in the next few minutes. We head to the 3rd down a goal, and of course nobody comes through in the clutch. Instead, we turtle, give up, and take another loss. Meanwhile, Washington wins in a SO to take over 1st place.
I’m so sick of breaking down what’s wrong, talking about how to fix it, and praying that this team will wake up in the playoffs. No they won’t! It’s easy to say that they flipped a switch last year, that this team is better, and can do it again. No, they can’t! They’ve become so lethargic, so complacent, that they are ripe for the picking. That Sens team last night had no business beating us, regardless of ANY factors. Here’s a glorious review from the other side of the fence, on Sen Shot.
We’re missing some players, so are they. We’re still much deeper, and we completely blew it. All the players I expected to step up last night, didn’t, except Zherdev. We had so much room out there to create and dominate, and just failed to take advantage. It’s annoying, sickening, and maddening. All season long this team gave us a legitimate hope, and now they’re killing that dream.
I don’t want to completely close the door on the possibilities. But it’s hard to keep the faith when the team just doesn’t seem to care. I don’t know what to expect out of this bunch anymore. Screw predictions and previews. In the final two games I’m just going to watch and hope something cool happens.
