Yes, most penalties in this game were brutal. The Sabres didn’t score on a golden opportunity after the major called on Richards. If they had, I’d probably be a lot more pissed than I am now. When Carcillo’s head was batted like a ping pong ball by Miller and someone else, that pissed me off. The ref is in the corner, watching that play, and he let’s it go. Finally when Car Bomb starts to defend himself, the arm goes up. And initially the call seemed like it would be only on him. Somehow, someone talked the ref into evening it up. The correct call would be roughing on both Buffalo players, and a 2:00, 2 man advantage for us. Isn’t that some wishful thinking.
With the way our powerplay has been in the series, and the regular season, I don’t think it would have helped much. The best I hope for is for some sustained pressure that wears on their players. When we were killing off the bogus call on Richie, that was my biggest concern. It’s a nice ego boost, but it also tires players out. Although it seemed that we got some nice bounces and stayed in position, rather than chasing the puck.
Miller was great in spots, but we didn’t challenge him enough. He did an excellent job of staying in position and seeing shots. Once again, we didn’t drive the net hard enough to pay him pay for the few rebounds he gives up. More importantly, there just wasn’t enough traffic. What the hell does it take to get through to our forwards that they need to get in front of his face. Simple shots from the wing just aren’t going to get through him. He’s not swiss cheese; he’s one of the best in the world for a reason.
Prediction: If Nodl is healthy, he’s back in the lineup. I don’t agree with this, and I don’t like it. But I think Lavy might be upset with Zherdev’s defense on the goal. It was his man that came down unmarked and scored.
Sabre Noise has some valid points about the game too.
So despite how the game flow has gone, we’re now even. And to this point, that’s all that matters. We’ll know our fate in the next 5 days. Go Flyers!
