I did alright on the first round picks, so here’s the breakdown of the second round:
Eastern Conference Semifinals
1) Washington Capitals vs 5) Tampa Bay Lightning
Neither of their first round series went as I predicted. The Caps played much better than I expected (I thought they’d lose), and Tampa struggled more than I thought they would. Anyway, all the “experts” will be talking about the offensive stars in this game and expecting a high scoring series. However, both teams changed their approach during the season to be more sound defensively. Tampa plays an annoying version of the trap with no forechecking. However, it was the Caps that figured out a system on how to beat them. They’ll sit in their own zone until somebody comes after them, then move the puck up. In the first round, neither team scored a ton of goals, although they did play some top notch goalies. Tampa has an edge at center and in net, but this Washington team has been together a bit longer. I think this comes down to who plays their system better. I’ll take the Caps in 7.
2) Philadelphia Flyers vs 3) Boston Bruins
This is a Flyers blog. You’ll get more in depth analysis tomorrow.
