So here’s the roster for the prospect camp that the Flyers are holding this week. A few names are familiar, but I don’t really know anyone on this list. I don’t follow the junior leagues, college hockey, or any other level outside of the NHL. So therefore, I really don’t know much about any of these guys and what style they have and what their strengths are. So here’s a breakdown of them based on some numbers that jump out at me from that roster sheet.
Forwards
Jason Akeson: 108 points in 67 games. Maybe this is a weak league, but that’s some pretty good offense.
Sean Couturier: 6″4″ is a nice frame, hopefully he’s got some muscle to add to it. 96 points in58 games. I know he’s the 8th pick in this past draft, so we’ve got some lofty expectations for him.
Derek Mathers: 171 PIM’s in 55 games. I wouldn’t mind a young tough guy to replace Jody Shelley.
Brayden Shenn: No real eye-popping numbers, but they’ve hyped him up a lot since we traded for him.
Defense
Marc-Andre Bourdon: 225Lbs. Big boy to clear the crease.
Etienne Boutet: 115 PIMS in 64 games. Agressive, I want that out of a d-man.
Erik Gustaffson: 44 Assists in 72 games, also a few games with the big club. Trending up I hope?
Brandon Manning: 53 points in 53 games, and 129 PIMs. Offense and aggressive, I really like it.
Goalies
Niko Hovinen: 6’7″. Huge? Yes. Good? Time will tell.
Note: I mostly ignored guys born before 1990 because those guys should have made it by now.
