Time For Briere To Get Started

Sure, things are fine with the Flyers. They are winning, scoring goals, and straight up entertaining.  Seems like for now we should just keep doing what we’re doing, and just grow as a team along the way. Well, that sounds fine, but it’s not that simple.  We need a bit more from Danny Briere.

Don’t get me wrong. I don’t mean to call him out and say we should be worried about him. I’m just saying that if he’s going to be the #2 center on this team, then we need to see a bit more from him.  He’s done more than proven his worth to this team.  He’s a clutch goal scorer, and a nifty playmaker.  But so far, in 3 games this season, we’ve only see one brilliant play from him.  The play he made to set up Andrej Meszaros for the winning goal against Vancouver was sweet.  We need more of that.

For the most part, he’s been pretty invisible.  It’s easy for us to look past that because of how well almost everything is going.  Make no mistake about it though; Danny wants to start scoring, and the coaches want him to also. That’s why he’s here, that’s why he gets paid the big bucks.  He’s not a role player, he’s a goal scorer. And the sooner he starts, the sooner his confidence grows.  It will also alleviate some pressure from the rest of the lineup. There’s no reason to worry though. It’s only been a few games.  He doesn’t need a hot start, but he does need to get started at some point. And sooner rather than later would be nice.

Tonight is  a good night as any to light the lamp. Sure, LA has a sick goalie in J-Quick.  But Briere has built a reputation for scoring when the team needs him to.  I feel like tonight will be the toughest defensive team that we’ve played so far. We can’t hope for G and Jagr to carry us in every game.  So hopefully Briere finds the back of the net tonight.
