Undisciplined Flyers

This blog might be brief today, because I still cannot fathom what is wrong with the Flyers lately. I know all us fans are saying, “Goaltending, blah, blah, blah, Bryzgalov is awful…” but I’m starting to not believe that anymore. At least not from the game last night in Edmonton. Bryzgalov was actually on top of his game last night, and I don’t think the goals he let in were terrible. The Oilers have some good young forwards that know how to get the puck down the slot, which they proved to the Flyers last night.

The Flyers for some reason, just couldn’t get it past Edmonton’s Dubnyk, and I don’t know why. They were still trying to get pucks to the net, but they ran out of steam once they got there. This was not the only issue with the Flyers last night, I almost felt like they were playing undisciplined. I noticed this early on in the game, it may have been in the second period, when Bryzgalov blocked a shot pretty much on his own. The defensemen didn’t seem to be paying attention to the puck, but rather their own issues with their rival players. Seriously guys, just shoot the puck at the net.

I feel like Scott Hartnell has come a long way this season, but last night I felt like I was watching Hartnell from a few season ago as he took some really bad penalties last night. One of these occurred in the second period for kneeing, which he might actually be facing a disciplinary hearing for this offense. If Hartnell gets a suspension, this will not help the already crumbling Flyers.  Then in the third period, he was giving a two-minute unsportsmanlike conduct. As I recall this might have been when he was being dragged off into the box by the linesmen. The Flyers cannot play this undisciplined and still expect to pull through from behind in a two goal deficit. It’s just not possible.

So thank you Bryzgalov for good goaltending, continue playing this way and perhaps the rest of the team will turn around this slump that the Flyers desperately need to get out of.
