Quick Nash Rumor Update

Greg Bartram-US PRESSWIRE

Again Rick Nash’s name has been brought up in a trade rumor involving the Flyers. According to CSNPhilly.com’s Tim Panaccio the Flyers today are in serious discussions to bring the winger to Philly. I don’t believe the Flyers have a big piece, that they would want to part with, to get the deal done with Columbus. I’m sure Schenn and Couturier are names the Blue Jackets have told the Flyers they want in the deal. And so far I’m pretty confident Homer has stood his ground and closed the door on that deal. That’s most likely why the deal hasn’t been done yet. If the Flyers gave up one of those two I guarantee Nash would be a Flyer already.

The Rangers are the other team that has been rumored to still be heavy in the Nash hunt. The Blue Jackets are probably asking for players like Del Zotto and Anisimov from the Rangers to complete that deal. And so far the Rangers have said no to that it seems. In my opinion the Blue Jackets GM Howson is in the absolute worst position and it’s his fault he’s in it. Instead of just working out a deal with a team and trading Nash he publicly stated they were looking to move him. And then nothing happened. And then  Nash got frustrated of being in limbo and asked for a trade. And then still nothing happened. Now every team in the league knows Howson desperately needs to move him by the start of next season. He will get almost none of the value he would have got for him if he had just done it when he first decided to trade him. He waited for the perfect deal and now that will never happen so he needs to take what he can get and move on. The franchise is falling apart mainly because of his miscalculations over the last 5 to 6 years.

As I have stated before I do not see the need for Rick Nash on this current Flyers roster unless they were planning on moving him immediately upon agreeing to the trade for another defensemen, but that almost never happens in the NHL. I’m not sure of the Flyers plan here and it is odd they would be attempting to do this on the eve of free agency were the Flyers do have a couple of pressing needs they need to take care of. Hopefully Homer has balanced his schedule.
