No Ryan Suter or Zach Parise, but the Flyers made two solid acquisitions. Philadelphia agreed to terms with D Bruno Gervais, and LW Ruslan Fedetenko.
Gervais received a 2 year deal at $825,000 per season, while Fedetenko was given a one year deal at $1.75 million.
The 27 year old Gervais spent last season with the Tampa Bay Lightning, appearing in 50 games and notching 13 points. He is a solid defenseman with a right handed shot, a department the Flyers could always use help in. He spent the previous 5 seasons with the New York Islanders, where the most career games he played was 71. Gervais will most likely be the Flyers 6th Defenseman, and the team will most likely look to add a bigger name on the blue line as well.
The Ukrainian Fedetenko returns to the Flyers after 10 years; he spent time with the team from 2000-2002. He signed a one year deal with the New York Rangers this past season, playing in 73 games and scoring 9 goals along with 11 assists. Although he will most likely not be able to produce offensively like he can in years past, Fedetenko will still put up good numbers. He also brings great leadership, and will be a welcomed addition on the Penalty Kill. A 3rd or 4th liner, Fedetenko will pick up Darroll Powe’s role after he left off after he left Philadelphia two seasons ago
With the signing of these two, the Flyers have reached 48 out of a maximum of 50 contracts.
