In an interesting turn of events, Phoenix Coyotes captain Shane Doan will be in Philadelphia on Saturday (7/21/2012) to meet with Philadelphia Flyers brass.
I reported on July 17th that the Flyers had “definite interest” in Doan, and it appears with the while Shea Weber situation unfolding in Philly, Doan’s interest in playing for the Flyers has substatially grown. Here’s the report I had via twitter on the 17th:
I was told yesterday that Shane Doan would be visiting Philadelphia today, but was not able to confirm the information with his agent. It now looks as though the rumors are true, and Doan will indeed be in town today. Reports have been confirmed by many, including Dustin Leed (@D_LEED) of The Fourth Period.
With Shea Weber and Shane Doan both visiting Philadelphia in recent weeks, what will happen to the likes of RFA’s Jake Voracek and Marc-Andre Bourdon? Both still remain unsigned. If both Weber and Doan were to sign in Philadelphia, trades would be certain to follow, as they can’t fit them both under the cap currently.
It does not appear anything is imminent between Doan and Philadelphia, but the visit certainly speaks volumes for the organization. Mr. Snider wants another cup, and he’s tired of waiting.
