NHL Lockout: Another Round Of Games Canceled

Credit: US Presswire

Well, as most of us Flyers fans suspected, the National Hockey League made it official that all games through December 30th have been canceled.  The NHL made the announcement on Monday afternoon with no hint of the strike ending soon.

Although the NHL and NHLPA met last week in New York to “hammer out” a deal, the talks once again stalled.  Just four days after the sides departed New York, the cancellation of more games seemed inevitable.  The announcement brings the total number of Flyers game canceled to 35—18 home games and 17 away games.

For those keeping track at home, the total number of games canceled by the NHL since the September 16th lockout has now reached 526 games.  That number includes the 2013 Winter Classic game scheduled to be played at Michigan Stadium, nicknamed “The Big House” and the NHL All-Star game.

Both sides of the table have lost millions thus far and with reports of progress last week maybe an agreement is on the horizon for the next round of meetings.  So standby Flyers fans, let’s hope the New Year will finally bring us some long awaited hockey.
