Crunched by Syracuse

The Phantoms and the Crunch do not like each other. That much is clear. Whenever the two teams play against each other it’s a fight to the finish. The last time they played against each other it ended in a 4-3 victory for the Phantoms, but on Friday, the Crunch made sure the victory wouldn’t go the Phantoms way again. The Crunch shutout the Phantoms on Friday night 3-0.

No goals were scored in the first period, so most of the action was contained in the second period. Syracuse’s Alex Killorn scored the first goal five minutes in with help from Keith Aulie and Mike Angelidis. Then a few minutes later, towards the half way point, while the Phantoms were on the power play Richard Panik scored short handed assisted by Dmitry Korobov. It only took about a minute for a brawl to occur. No surprise there, it’s the Phantoms and they like to fight.

In the third period another fight broke out between Zac Rinaldo and Aulie. Angelidis and Cullen Eddy also got into with equal roughing penalties during the fight. Angelidis also got an additional misconduct. The PIMS were bad for both teams but it really hurt the Phantoms in the end.

Despite fighting and misconducts the Crunch got one last goal to seal the deal in a 3-0 shutout win at the end of the third period. The Phantoms did not stand a chance, and drop down to the 5th seed in the East Division.
