On New Year’s Eve, the Phantoms played against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers and were led to another disappointing loss.

Matt Watkins scored immediately for the Tigers in the first period, followed shortly by a fight between Zach FitzGerald and Blair Riley.

The Tigers increased their lead early in the second with a power play goal by Johan Sundstrom, which followed another goal by John Persson a few minutes later. It was in this period that the Phantoms got their momentum back.

Jeff Dinman, Sean Couturier and Brandon Manning all scored goals in the second period to tie the game. This gave the Phantoms a chance at a win, but the third period went scoreless so the game went into an overtime period. The five minute period also was scoreless so the game went to a shootout round.

Akeson was the only Phantom to score in the round, while three Tigers scored on goaltender Scott Munroe. The Tigers got the point and won the game in OT 4-3.
