This weekend the Phantoms played the Albany Devils back to back, and lost both games.
In their game on Friday night, the Devils defeated the Phantoms 4-1.
Devils’ Joe Whitney scored the only goal in the first period to give the Devils the early lead. Matt Anderson increased this lead at the halfway point in the second period. Matt Ford finally got the Phantoms on the board to cut the Devils lead in half late in the second period.
In the final period, the Devils did not give the Phantoms another opportunity to score. Half way into the last period Whitney scored again followed shortly later by another goal from Kelly Zajac. The Phantoms could not score again so the Devils took the game 4-1.
On Saturday the Phantoms wanted to enact their revenge, but the Devils didn’t let them. The Devils came out strong early by scoring three goals from Steve Zalewski, Harri Pesonen, and Bobby Butler. Devils goalie Jeff Franzee shut the Phantoms out from scoring in the period.
Half way into the second period the Phantoms were given a power play, and Marcel Noebels banked on it, hoping to cut the Devils lead.
The Devils did not score in the second, but they banked another goal early in the third on the power play. Pesonen scored once again. The Phantoms got another power play goal from Danny Syvret but it wasn’t enough to bring the game back to them. Especially since Darcy Zajac scored another goal to seal the Devils 5-2 win.
