After the Flyers dropped a game to the Devils on Friday night, 3-5, some philly fans were saying, well at least the Phantoms won. Which is great and all, but the Phantoms still suck this season. But it’s interesting since the Phantoms played against the Albany Devils’ (the New Jersey Devils’ AHL affliate).

The Phantoms hung on more than the Flyers could as they took down the Albany Devils, 4-2 on Friday night.

Most of the goals were scored in the first twenty minutes of the game, with Andrew Johnston getting the Phantoms on the board early. This followed quickly by a shorthanded goal from Chris McKelvie to tie the game up. Brandon Manning didn’t let the tie stick as he scored for the Phantoms a few minutes later on the power play. The Devils tied the game again a few minutes later with a goal from Harri Pesonen, but much later in the game Rob Bordson broke the tie again.

The fast paced first 20 lead to a rather boring second period, but things got cooking again in the third. And by that, I mean there was two fights at once. Darcy Zajac and Tim Sestito of the Devils got five minute major penalties. Zajac also got an added 10 minute game misconduct for a secondary altercation. Brandon Manning got the same additional major added to his five minute. Ian Slater had a five minute major, two minute minor instigating and a ten minute misconduct.

In the end, the thing that helped the Phantoms sink their win was an empty netter by Eric Wellwood.
