The Adirondack Phantoms’ Eric Wellwood may not return this season. During a Phantoms game at Bridgeport Sound Tigers, Wellwood’s right leg was sliced open by a skate.

According to the game report from the Phantoms, he was taken off the ice while the puck was in play and he left a trail of blood on the ice as he headed to the locker room.

From then he was taken to a nearby hosiptal in Bridgeport, Conn. and had surgery. Poststar.com’s AHL Beat Writer Diana C. Nearhos also reported,

This is a pretty serious injury for the AHL player so it looks like his season may be over.

Flyers fans will recognize Wellwood’s name as he played a few games with the team last season and played four games with the NHL this season while Danny Briere was injured.
