Hearing that Claude Giroux and the Flyers are close to agreeing to an 8-yr deal worth north of $8 M a year…

As you can see above, ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun is reporting the Flyers and Claude Giroux are close to signing a deal that would keep him in Philly for the next 8 years. While financial figures have not been confirmed, the deal is thought to be worth around $8 million a year. This contract would put Giroux in the same company financially as Corey Perry, Ryan Getzlaf, Evgeni Malkin, and Eric Staal.
It had been pretty much a forgone conclusion that sometime this summer the Flyers and Claude’s representatives were going to sit down to iron out a contract extension. The Flyers signed him to a pretty sweetheart 3 year deal worth $3.75 million back in 2011 but after averaging at least a point a game the last two seasons the Canadian heartthrob was going to get an expensive raise.
As I was writing this post Darren Dreger from TSN has a dollar figure.
@Real_ESPNLeBrun. Just ironing out a few wrinkles and it will be announced within a day or 2. Sources suggest closer to $8.3 per.
