The Flyers have signed 38 year old defenseman Hal Gill to a one year contract, according to GM Paul Holmgren. Gill attended training camp on a professional try out basis and recorded solid, if unremarkable, stats in the three preseason games that he appeared in.
Gill will be entering his 16th NHL season and spent the past two seasons in Nashville. Gill is a solid defender with very little offensive upside but will offer a physical presence on the blue line which should hopefully give Emery and Mason a decent chance at stopping the pucks that come towards them. At 38 years old Gill has probably lost a step or two so expect to see him floating back from the play when he is out on the ice.
Gill will get $700k for his stint with the Flyers, a reasonable price for a solid defender.
