Orange and Black Excitement Once Again: Flyers Opening Night

Philadelphia breathes Flyers hockey. It’s engrained in our minds and hearts.

It’s on our shirts and hats, and even on our body itself.

It’s beloved by men and women, boys and girls, old and young, Catholic and Protestant.

We love Flyers hockey. And even without a Stanley Cup since 1975, the passion and intensity for the orange and black never ceases to exist. And it ignites once again tonight.

Because we get to see Captain Claude Giroux dazzle and snipe again.

Because Jakub Voracek is primed to continue his breakout 2013 campaign.

Because Scott Hartnell and Wayne Simmonds provide the goals and the grit.

Because Kimmo Timmonen deserves his name on Lord Stanley.

Because Steve Mason and Ray Emery become a goaltending duo Flyers fans have dreamed of and hoped for so long.

Because f*** Pittsburgh, New York, New Jersey, Washington, Boston, and basically every team not named Philadelphia.

Because last year was a fluke.

Because it’s been too damn long since the orange and black have hoisted the Stanley Cup.

Because we believe this is our year.

Because it’s opening night, and nothing else matters.

Welcome to the 2013-2014 season.

Let’s Go Flyers.
