So while perusing the internet during a much-needed vacation from work, I stumbled across what might be the most titillating and horrifying article regarding the Philadelphia Flyers EVER.
If you were ever wondering to yourself, “Man, I could really go for some well written Philadelphia Flyers fan fiction right about now.” You need not worry friend, it exists, and it’s pretty insane.
Over at the Philadelphia City Paper, Dan McQuade had the great distinction of writing the piece describing the stories he found on the website Mibba. While there, he found that most stories were centered around our current captain, Claude Giroux, but surprisingly, or unsurprisingly if you find him handsome, the second most popular Flyer was Maxime Talbot. The full breakdown of how many words were penned for each current and former Flyers players can be found at the link I provided above to the Philadelphia City Paper.
The stories mostly centered around the Flyers players either falling in love with a trainer or a female player drafted by the Flyers. Some don’t involve love or sex though, some delve into meme territory, including one titled, “Hartnell Down”. For those of you not familiar with this meme, it’s a poke at Scott Hartnell’s surprising inability to stay upright on the ice. The most insane story however described by Dan McQuade has to be the one where Giroux shoots Chris Pronger, puts him into a coma, and Kimmo Timonen is an interim police commissioner charged with bringing him in. Yeah, I don’t know either.
In what has been so far an uninspiring start to the Flyers season, this article was a nice little diversion that made me laugh……uncomfortably. But laugh none the less.
Oh, and I almost forgot. The player with the least amount of words written about them? Ilya Bryzgalov. This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone.
