The Philadelphia Flyers are consistently at the bottom of the NHL in prospect rankings. The Flyers have few, if any, blue chip prospects who can change the whole look of a team. However, the Flyers do have a large number mid-level prospects. In terms of forwards, they do not need to have a lot of great prospects. The Flyers are full of good young NHL forwards. Claude Giroux, Jakub Voracek, Wayne Simmonds, Steve Downie, Brayden Schenn, Sean Couturier, and Zac Rinaldo are all under 27. They figure to be the core of the forwards for the next 5-7 years, barring a major trade. In terms of defensemen, the Flyers have the opposite problem. The roster is full of old defensemen, but they have a large number of prospects. How good are those prospects? We’ll see in a few years.
We have looked at the forward prospects here. We have looked at the defensemen and goalie prospects here. The Flyers have prospects of all positions and sizes. They play different styles and they have come to the Flyers organization through the draft, free agency, and trades. Some play college hockey, some are in juniors, and some play overseas. Weighing all of these factors against one another, who do you think is the Flyers best prospect?
