Although he is beginning to show his age, it is hard not to love Kimmo Timonen. The guy competes hard every night and clearly is a leader in the Flyers locker room. On March 18, 2013, Timonen’s 38th birthday, he played in his 1000th career NHL game. Timonen is known to be a warrior, but the fact that he has played so many games is also a testament to his skill and hockey knowledge. Despite his age, Timonen won the Barry Ashbee trophy, the award given to the Flyers best defenseman, last season for the fourth time.
The Flyers celebrated Timonen’s 1000th game on March 26th when they returned home to the Wells Fargo Center. Here is a video in which the players pay homage to the leader the Timonen clearly has been for this team.
