Rink Rats - March 1, 2014

Good morning Flyers fans! Hopefully the Flyers will perform better this weekend than they dd on Thursday. For now, sit back, relax, and enjoy the latest stories from around the league:

Last night, silly season officially kicked off with a blockbuster trade between the St. Louis Blues and the Buffalo Sabres. The Blues acquired Ryan Miller and Steve Ott. The Sabres acquired Jaroslav Halak, Chris Stewart, William Carrier (prospect), a 1st round pick in 2015, a 3rd round pick in 2016, and a conditional 1st round pick in 2014 (conditional upon Miller re-signing in St. Louis OR St. Louis making the Western Conference Finals).

For a reaction from the Blue side of things look here. And for a Sabres slanted reaction look here.

How does this trade effect the Blackhawks? What about the Hurricanes? The rest of the NHL?

Yesterday, the New York Rangers re-signed defenseman Dan Girardi to a 6 year, $33 million deal.

Is Sami Vatanen available? If so, who’s interested?

It finally looks like Capitals prospect Evgeny Kuztnetsov is finally going to come over to the USA.
