Gene Hart Memorial Award – Most Heart

Winner: Steve Mason

My winner: Wayne Simmonds

Steve Mason had a very good season. He performed well and showed mental toughness even when things were not going his way. However, Wayne Simmonds showed the most heart this season. He played tough, hard-nosed hockey when things were going his way and when things weren’t. He clearly earned the respect of both coaches and teammates. This was signified by the fact that he was given the ‘A’ on his jersey with the absence of Kimmo Timonen. I mean no disrespect to Mason, but I believe that Wayne Simmonds was more deserving of the Gene Hart Memorial Trophy.
