Philadelphia Flyers Select Nicolas Aube-Kubel 48th Overall

The Philadelphia Flyers have selected Nicolas Aube-Kubel with the 48th overall pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. Aube-Kubel is a right winger/center from the QMJHL. He is 5’11”, 187lbs, and right handed.

Last year, playing for Val-D’Ors, Aube-Kubel scored 22 goals and earned 31 points (53 points) in 65 games. Aube-Kubel has good offensive instincts but is a tad undersized.

NHL Central Scoutings Chris Bordeleau had this to say about Aube-Kubel:

He reminds me a little of Jason Pominville, only a little stronger at the same age. He’s very involved and shoots the puck really well. He plays in all situations.

OHL Scout Todd Cordell said that Aube-Kubel,

is a good skater who has a high top speed. He’s elusive with the puck, and once he accelerates he has the ability to blow by defenders and create off the rush. Aube-Kubel is great in the neutral zone, as he gains top speed while carrying the puck up ice and is tough to stop when he gets going. Aube-Kubel is excellent entering the zone, as he regularly gains the opposing line with possession of the puck

Overall, Nicoals Aube-Kubel seems to be a small, but skilled forward. He has played both center and wing. Obviously he is not NHL ready and will need to grow a little bit more, but the Flyers can afford to be patient with him.
