The Philadelphia Flyers have to find a way to capitalize more offensively against the New York Islanders.

After a disappointing 2-1 loss to the Ottawa Senators on Friday, the Philadelphia Flyers will finish out this round of back-to-backs by playing host to the New York Islanders at the Wells Fargo Center. The Islanders took the first meeting of the season between the two sides, defeating the Flyers by a score of 5-3 on October 27th. Philadelphia will hope to even the season series with a win tonight while also trying to avoid a three-game losing streak.

There’s no denying that the Orange and Black have to cash in more offensively if they want their best shot at walking away with two points. While they rode a four-game winning and six-game point streak recently, the Flyers have netted under two goals in regulation in each of their last five contests. That simply isn’t going to get it done on a consistent night in and night out basis, no matter how good or bad of team you oppose. Philadelphia needs to start converting on all of the scoring chances they create, especially if they want to beat the Isles.

New York enters this game allowing the least amount of Goals Against among all NHL teams with 39 in 17 games played. That rounds out to an average of a mere 2.2 goals per game, which is pretty darn impressive, to say the least. A lot of their defensive success is due to how great their goaltending has been to begin the year, posting a .928 save percentage as a team. The Islanders do allow a lot of chances and shots in their own zone, though, making it even more important for the Flyers capitalize on what New York gives them and put the puck in the back of the net more often.

Flyers Betting Odds and Lines

Courtesy of The Action Network, the Flyers are a consensus -100 while the Islanders are a -115 entering their Metropolitan Division clash this evening. This is likely due to how closely matched both sides are in terms of Goals For, Against, and Penalties, as they’re essentially splitting hairs in all three categories.
