It appears that the break between their games did not help the Adirondack Phantoms. Last Friday as they took on the Binghamton Senators they fell to a 5-2 decision.

The last time the two teams played, the Phantoms wrecked the Senators, so it is clear that their opponents were seeking out revenge.

The PIMS were average in this game and they were pretty even in shots, the Senators lead 40-39. So these were not the reasons that the Phantoms fell. The Senators just had a better goalie in Nathan Lawson.

Cole Schenider was the star for the Senators by starting the game with two goals in the first period. This definitely gave his teammates Pat Cannone and Mark Borowiecki the confidence they needed score two additional goals.

Jason Akeson, who has been the lead goal scorer for the Phantoms all season, tried to bring momentum to his team with a late period goal in the second.

In the final period, Eric Wellwood banked on the momentum by scoring a second goal for the Phantoms. It wasn’t enough because they were still down by two goals. There was plenty of time left in the period to bring it back, but the Phantoms failed to do so.

Derek Grant sealed the deal for the Senators with one last goal in the third period to lead his team to a 5-2 win.

It seems like every time the Phantoms do well, the next game they play they drop. This is clearly not their year, which is evident by their poor record.

The Goalie Carousel between Glen Falls and Philadelphia continues!

Last week the Flyers decided to swap Michael Leighton for Brian Boucher, again, despite that Ilya Bryzgalov has gotten nearly every start this season. The Flyers need to find a solid back up. Between Boucher and Leighton, neither of them seem to be it.

So let’s check in with the Phantoms to see if the goalie swap helped them at all.

Well putting Boucher in may have helped the Adirondack Phantoms last Friday as they defeated the Binghamton Senators in a close 3-2 game at Binghamton.

Yay the Phantoms won! It’s a sad time in the state of Philly affiliated hockey when I get excited over one win. Especially when you consider how bad the Phantoms have been doing this season.

I’ve been preaching that the biggest problem with the Phantoms is that they take far too many penalties. Maybe they are starting to listen to me, because they were pretty disciplined in Friday ’s game by only taking eight PIMS in the entire game. Their opponents took 18, and Darren Kramer was even accessed a two-minute unsportsmanlike conduct in the second period.

The Phantoms took all of their penalties in the first period, but they learned from their lesson quickly when the Senators scored first in the first 20 minutes on a power play. The Phantoms got their chance late in the period and Garrett Roe showed the Senator’s penalty kill who was boss by tying up the game.

The Senators didn’t learn from their lesson because with a minute left in the period Matt Mangene scored on the power play to give the Phantoms a 2-1 lead.

The second period was quiet with no scoring despite a lot of power plays for the Phantoms.

In the third period the Senators tried to win it back after the half way point with a game tying goal from Cole Schneider. For the Phantoms Tyler Brown came to the rescue with a late game winner that sealed their victory.

After the successful victory, the Phantoms went on to take on Hershey Bears.

Last sunday was the Adirondack Phantoms’ mascot Dax’s second birthday, so naturally the Phantoms wore Dax jerseys instead of their regular ones. I don’t know what is with this organization and their affinity for weird jerseys, but on Sunday they won against the Binghamton Senators, so maybe Dax gave them some luck.

The first period was scoreless, but of course there was fight because this is the Phantoms we’re talking about. Cullen Eddy and Hugh Jessiman got into a fight at the end of period.

Matt Mangene got the Phantoms on the board in the following period on the power play. The Senators couldn’t score in the period, but Cole Schneider was instigating and even started a fight with Ian Slater, Schneider even got a 10 minute misconduct for it.

Jon Sim increased the Phantoms lead to two in the last period early on, and a few minutes later Dustin Gazley scored the only goal the Senators would get past Cal Heeter. The last period was pretty slow and only one penalty was called, but it allowed the Phantoms to log another win. They were led to a 2-1 victory over the Senators.

The Phantoms took less penalties than the Senators in this game (22-32) but they still took a lot which is something the team desperately needs to work on.
