After the Adirondack Phantoms’ Brandon Manning checked Springfield Falcons’ player Wade Macleod into the boards last weekend, MacLeod went into a seizure. MacLeod seems fine now and is off to a swift recovery, but the two teams never finished the game. Now they’ll get a chance to do so on March 1.

They will start the game at 6:05 to finish out the 3:28 left in the second period and the rest of the 20 minutes left in the third period. After the game is concluded, they will go to their locker rooms until the start of their warmups for their already scheduled game at 7:30.

Expect these two teams to be tired by the end of it, seeing that they have to play an extra period added on to the game. The 7:30 game should be an interesting one to say the least.

The Adirondack Phantoms played a game on Sunday, but they never finished it. Why is that? Because Brandon Manning boarded Springfield Falcons’ Wade MacLeod. Manning was given a two minute minor penalty for the offense, but then something really weird happened. Macleod hit his head against the glass and appeared shaken up but he seemed okay. Until he skated back to the Falcons’ bench and collapsed into a seizure.

Yes, he had a freaking seizure after being boarded by Brandon Manning. There is no doubt that this was a freak accident. There is no way that Manning could ever have intentionally tried to do this to another player. Much like how the Pittsburgh Penguins Matt Cooke couldn’t have intended to cut Ottawa Senators’ Erik Karlsson‘s achilles’. These are freak accidents that unfortunately happen in a rough game like hockey.

Manning spoke out about the incident via his twitter to express his feelings and sympathy for MacLeod:

would like to give my best to Wade MacLeod and his family. never had any intention of ever hurting another player…hope for a speedy recovery and see him back on the ice soon. thoughts and prayers to him and his family

You can tell that Manning feels really bad about what happened, even though it wasn’t done in malicious intent. It was a bad hit and that’s what happens in hockey.

The game was suspended with 3:28 left in the second period, the Phantoms were winning 2-1 and were trying to head for a much needed win in the final period. No word on when the game will resume, but for now it has suspended and will need to be completed sometime before playoffs.

Broad Street Buzz wants to wish MacLeod a speedy recovery and hope that we don’t see these freak accidents on the ice any longer.

While the Phantoms are no longer in Philly, us Philly fans are still a bit interested in the AHL team. Especially with this awful NHL lockout that has no end in site. Seriously the only difference between the two lockouts is that the Phantoms no longer play at the Spectrum (since it no longer exists).

Well okay, the situation is a bit different, but it’s still not looking good for NHL fans. So if you’re life consists of eating, sleeping, and crying about the lockout, just start paying attention to the AHL. It looks like the Phantoms actually stream their games live on their website so we can actually watch hockey! (whether or not it actually works all the time, I don’t know from personal experience. Yet)

The Phantoms are maintaining their spot as the 3rd seed and are now 2-2-0, having played two more games this weekend. During opening weekend they beat the Portland Pirates 6-3 and then lost in a shutout against the Springfield Falcons. This weekend they played back to back games against St. John’s Ice Caps, logging both a win and lose. So they are doing okay, but it could be better. Also it is still very early in the AHL season so their record is sure to change (hopefully for the good) in the next coming weeks.

On Friday they logged another L in a 1-2 game against the Ice Caps. Then yesterday they came back to win another game 4-3. The Ice Caps got on the board first when Albert scored the first goal of the game in the first period. It looked like it was going to be their game again in the beginning of the second as Telegin scored the second goal, but that’s when the Phantoms managed to tie it up. First with a goal by Brandon Manning assisted by Syvret and Couturier (names that Flyers fans should recognize) and then a second goal by Harper.

In the third period we got to see some more Flyers rookies in the mix as Zac Rinaldo scored the third Phantoms goal assisted by Bordson and Sean Couturier followed with scoring the game winning goal assisted by Holmstrom. The Ice Caps were able to score one last goal of the game at the end of the third period making this game a close call for the Phantoms.

Interestingly enough two of the three stars of this game are familiar names. Brayden Schenn was given the first star and Zac Rinaldo the third. Yes you read that last part correctly. As a rookie in the NHL Rinaldo has really shown a somewhat Carcillo character on the ice as an enforcer for the Flyers and he has spent a good deal of his time in the penalty box. To see him on the scoreboard more and getting recognized for his goals and not his fights is pretty cool. It also shows that perhaps the young rookie is starting to mature, which is exactly why signing away the Flyers rookies to the AHL affiliate was a good idea. They are ready to show their potential and they want to be back in the NHL when the NHL is back.

Thanks for reading.
