5. Unworthy Goal Scoring

Scoring has been an issue as of late.  No matter what the situation on the ice is, the boys from broad just can’t seem to put it together.  Last night was no different.

The scoreboard may have read 4-1, but it might as well have read 2-1.  The Flyers were able to counter on the power play.  Good, right?  Wrong!

Jersey’s penalty killing unit is among the worst in the league.  Ranking in at 27, the Devils’ 76.1% on the penalty kill is nothing to be smiling about.  Not to mention the fourth tally came on an empty net goal.

New Jersey has been practically giving away goals this season, as they have surrendered an average of 31.1 shots per game.  That’s good enough for a subpar 22nd ranking in the league.

If you thought the even strength goal was fair, think again.  New Jersey’s 0.98 5-on-5 goal ratio is ranked in the lower end of the league.

As much as you want to feel good about the goal scoring, you shouldn’t.  It was nice to see certain guys finally snap out of a funk, but it would have be more impressive if they did it in a more respectable situation.
