With the Philadelphia Flyers themselves actually holding their own vote for the best highlight of last year, we thought it’d be good idea to take a look at the best plays from last year ourselves.
The best part is that there were quite a few players that had amazing plays last season. From Steve Mason, Giroux, to even Rob Zepp. We may have saw a lot of losses last year, including some atrocities, but we also were treated to some gems here and there. Hopefully, this season there will be a lot more of them.
Let’s take a look at my top-five plays from last season-

#5 Claude Giroux – Goal
This one is a beauty of a play between Voracek and Giroux to score on Toronto’s Bernier. Voracek makes a stellar pass across the rink to G, who then quickly buries an accurate shot behind Bernier.
#4 Michael Del Zotto – Goal
One of my favorite highlights of the season, this one is like #5. A calm and composed Sean Couturier brings it down the right wing, just long enough for Del Zotto to follow on the opposite side. A crisp pass later from Couturier, Del Zotto then absolutely snipes the NY Rangers’ Cam Talbot to put the Flyers ahead in the third period.
#3 Claude Giroux – Goal
There’s very little times in the Flyers’ last season that you can say they entered the offensive zone smoothly. Well, in this case, Giroux himself cuts through the defense like it were butter and buries one home against Colorado’s Varlamov.
#2 Rob Zepp – Save
Zepp, who followed an unlikely path to the NHL, makes a beauty of a save here against Winnipeg’s Schiefele to keep the Jets from taking a 4-1 lead.
#1 Steve Mason – Save
In my best play of the year, “Stone Cold” Steve Mason straight-up robs Pittburgh’s Adams on a rebound opportunity that seemed all but a done deal. Mason got extra points from me because it was against Pittsburgh, but all-in-all this was one helluva save.
