The Philadelphia Flyers didn’t chase the big name free agents today, but they added several players to bring depth to the organization
In addition to the signing of Dale Weise, who figures to be a top-9 forward for the Philadelphia Flyers, the Flyers also added 4 more players on this opening day of the free agency period.
Joining Weise as a new member of the NHL squad will be Boyd Gordon. Gordon was a first round pick way back in 2002, he has 693 NHL games under his belt. Despite a first round pedigree, Gordon is not an offensive player in the NHL, as he has only broken the 20-point barrier twice in the last 9 seasons. He is likely destined for the 4th line and faceoff duties.
On top of Gordon and Weise, the Flyers added 3 more players likely destined for the AHL. Those players are Greg Carey, Andy Miele, and Will O’Neill.
Miele is a 28-year old center. He played with the Grand Rapid Griffins of the AHL last season, leading the team with 62 points in 75 games. He will be a go-to offensive player for the Phantoms this upcoming season.
Carey is a 26-year old winger. He played his first season in the AHL last year with the Springfield Falcons, scoring 26 goals and 43 points.
Lastly, O’Neill is 28-year old defenseman. He is an offensive defenseman, and last season with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins racked up 50 points in 74 games.
