Philadelphia Flyers Trade Target: Ben Bishop

Are The Philadelphia Flyers in the market for a goaltender on March 1st?

With both Michal Neuvirth and Steve Mason pending UFA’s this summer, will the Philadelphia Flyers look to acquire a goalie?

Ben Bishop (who is currently at #8 on TSN’s bait board) would make a tempting trade target.

The 30-year-old goaltender has split time with Andrei Vasilevskiy this season.

Tampa Bay has  a problem because they can only protect one goalie in the upcoming expansion draft.

Bishop, who is a pending UFA, is mostly likely the odd man out in Tampa with 22-year-old Vasilevskiy locked up on a 3 year deal.

Is Ben Bishop an Upgrade?

Bishop has better numbers than both Flyers goaltenders over the past three seasons.

Over the last three seasons Ben Bishop has averaged, 2.34 GAA and .917 SV%. Michal Neuvirth 2.69 GAA and .909 SV%,, Steve Mason 2.55 GAA and .915 SV%.

Is it worthwhile to pull a trigger on the 6’7 goaltender.

If General Manager Ron Hextall acquires Bishop he would need to re-sign Bishop who is rumored to be looking for six million per season this off-season. The Flyers also needing to protect the big goalie, leaving highly sought after prospect Anthony Stolarz unprotected in the expansion draft. Is it worthwhile to resign and pay Bishop with the wealth of goal-tending prospect on their way?

The Philadelphia Flyers have a wealth of goaltender prospect coming.
