Here’s everything you need to know regarding the Philadelphia Flyers at the 2020 NHL Trade Deadline.

With the All-Star Game in the rear-view mirror and the month of February beginning to wind down, we’re now in the midst of trade season as the 2020 NHL Trade Deadline strikes today (Monday) at 3 pm EST. Teams will be working to improve their rosters for the short or long term, whether they’re fighting for a playoff spot or rebuilding for the future. The Philadelphia Flyers and General Manager Chuck Fletcher are in a position to buy at this year’s cutoff point but may have to do some maneuvering cap-wise if they want to get a deal done.

According to Cap Friendly, Philadelphia has 2,082,368 million dollars in space to work with while utilizing the Long Term Injured Reserve on Nolan Patrick, Oskar Lindblom, and Samuel Morin. They also have two spots open on the roster, sitting with a 21 out a possible 23 players, so it won’t be absolutely necessary for the Flyers to move a roster player in a potential deal unless the money doesn’t fit. Though two million dollars isn’t a whole lot to make use of, there are still a couple of options Fletcher could pursue that wouldn’t break the bank in terms of assets and would slide within the cap constraints. We highlighted a couple of them in this article.

Coming into Monday, the Flyers had been involved in just two rumors on the mill. Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman said in one of his 31 Thoughts pieces that Philly was considering Los Angeles Kings forward Jeff Carter depending on the health of Nolan Patrick. The Athletic’s Pierre Lebrun also said that Philadelphia was a team to “keep a close eye on” pertaining to Ottawa Senators centerman Jean-Gabriel Pageau, noting their need for a right-shot center.
