Another highly-rated prospect, Nicolas Aube-Kubel was drafted by the Flyers in the second round. Aube-Kubel was known as a scorer from the start. He posted double-digit goals during every season with the Val-d’Or Foreurs of the QMJHL. He got better and better every season, culminating in a final campaign that saw him with 38 goals and 84 points.

He was second on the team in goals and third in points. Aube-Kubel also appeared on the Canada Quebec U17 team at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in 2012-13. He was impressive in that tournament as well, posting four goals and eight points in six games.

Like Sanheim, Aube-Kubel made a seamless transition to the professional game. He first appeared in a Phantoms uniform at the end of the 2015-16 season. He grabbed three points in six games. He paid his dues in the AHL for two seasons as he posted 18 and 46 points respectively.

His chance to make the NHL finally came during the 2018-19 season. His sample size was small as he appeared in just nine games and didn’t record a single point. He was back in the AHL where he continued having another solid season.

With a new head coach and general manager in place, Aube-Kubel was given another chance this season. He ran with the opportunity this year, becoming a key cog in the Flyers bottom-six. The offense has come around as well. Scoring his first NHL goal, Aube-Kubel has registered 15 points in 36 games.

It took some time for Aube-Kubel to come around in the NHL. But he has been worth the wait.
