Both of these guys are excellent coaches. That is the truth. IF it comes down to one of these two, who would be the best fit?

In my opinion, I would opt for Trotz. Torts reminds me too much of Alain Vigneault (who both replaced each other as coach of the Rangers and Canucks in 2013).  For whatever reason,  Vigneault resonated well with the Flyers for the first year or so, and then it turned south real quick. I feel that Tortorella would do the same.

For example, Travis Konecny was a rising star with the Flyers and an all-star under Coach Hakstol. Then Vigneault comes in and Konecny stagnates. He only showed flashes of his potential after Vigneault was fired.

I worry that Tortorella would do the same thing. Granted, he has Cam Atkinson who could help him transition as a head coach into Philly and this would give Atkinson a great opportunity to step up as a team leader, but I still feel that Trotz would be the better fit.

Trotz has a proven track record of turning teams around real quick. If he can make the Islanders competitive with that group of players, he could do amazing things here in Philly. Trotz would be the way to go.
