Scott Stevens: Bastard

This was one of the early meetings in this relationship.  I’m not going to post the last significant time these two came together. It pains me too much.

I don’t care how good of an actual defenseman he was, how good of a leader, and all the other stuff.  Scott Stevens was dirty and I will hate him forever.  He apologized for the Lindros hit, but I don’t believe him one bit.  He had a history of dirty hits prior to that, and he kept playing the same way. There’s a way to hit people to make a play, and there’s a way to hurt people because you’re just a douche.

Not for one second do I think the hit he threw on Big E was clean.  He went for his head and came up with the arm.  He wanted to hurt Lindros and that’s exactly what he did. He could have planted Eric if he hit him in the chest, or went shoulder to shoulder.  He went high knowing full well what he was doing and who he was doing it to.

He should have gotten major fines and suspensions for the hit he threw on Kariya. It was similar to the Lindros hit, except Paul Kariya didn’t have the puck when he got steamrolled. When Stevens hit Francis, again it was a headshot. I can’t remember off the top of my head, but there were plenty of other moments.  I know there was no specific rule regarding headshots prior to this season, but didn’t players have some sort of protection against attempt to injure?  There were suspensions when guys blatantly tried to hurt each other.

That’s what Stevens did for his entire career. I’ll always hate the Devils for their boring brand of hockey.  I’ll always hate how they used their damned clutch and grab to slow other significantly more talented teams down.  I’ll hate them for beating the Flyers twice en route to the Cup.   But I hate them most because of Scott Stevens and how much of a dirty bastard he was.

Possibly the worst article ever written. A Flyers fan, whose nick name is broad street bullies which is from where you got the website name from, complains about Scott Stevens the greatest open ice hitter of all time for being dirty. Your organazation has prided itself on being dirty and has won cups because of it. You sir, are an idiot.

    1. The Broad Street Bullies nickname is referring to the team during the 70′s. Outsiders still call the team that, not the locals.

    2. He threw plenty of good hits. Btu he threw plenty of dirty ones. He was a headhunter. open your eyes. Multiple people don’t get concussions from getting hit in the chest.

    3. The organization prides itself on being tough. Dropping the gloves to fight is not dirty. We have a reputation going back 40 years, but if we were that dirty, we’d stand out from the pack in PIM’s. We don’t. We have dirty players, but so does everyone else.

You sir, are a Devils fan. And that just sucks to admit in public, doesn’t it?

It doesn’t suck at all to admit I’m a fan of a winning team. Yeah you are totally right I am so ashamed of that. He has 3 elbowing minors in his career, sounds like a Dan Carcillo type of player to me. He didn’t even target Lindros ‘ head in the least bit, Lindros thinks he can skate down the middle of the ice with his head down and go through the zone. Stevens isn’t the only one who caught him in that position, guess all the other hitters were targeting him too. Again I go back to before this is an embarrassment of an article. And considering you have Chris Pronger and the recently traded Captain elbows with Carcillo Lapparierre and other buffoons on your team. Yeah lets “pretend” you aren’t goons still.

3 elbowing minors doesn’t prove anything. He’s a big guy, he can nail people in the head, intentionally, without using his elbows. If you look at the Kasparaitis hit, he extended his arm out too; once again, that’s dirty. And for the record, I’m not a reporter, thus this is not an article. I’m a regular fan, and this is a blog. And at no point did I defend Pronger and say he’s not dirty, nor some of the other players. I’m not the GM, I don’t build the team. The point of this blog post wasn’t to say we’re a clean team and have a bad rap, it was to point out that I hate Scott Stevens and he’s a dirty bastard.

Did you really call Ian Laperriere a buffoon? You sir are not a true hockey fan. I don’t care what team you root for Lappy is what epitomizes hockey itself. I’ve had even the most adamant flyers haters come to various flyers blogs and talk of how he is the perfect example of why hockey players have more heart, perseverance, and determination that any other professional athletes. Now back to the article. I do not necessarily agree with everything in the article. I personally have a negative outlook on Eric Lindros because I feel as though he could be much more than what he was in the NHL. He was a big body who could skate and shoot the puck. He never learned how to skate with his head up and he payed the price for it. Scott Stevens can not be at fault for exploiting this weakness of him. Just my 2 cents, and like I said I do have a biased opinion of Lindros.
