Philadelphia Flyers Inching Closer to Playoff Spot
The NHL season is coming to an end and the Philadelphia Flyers are hoping to punch their postseason ticket.
The Philadelphia Flyers want to make the postseason. It would be an interesting story that serves as a look of the ups and downs of the team’s season. January was the high point of the team’s season and it seemed that their stock was going to keep going up. A five-game road trip didn’t help and pushed the Flyers further behind in the Eastern Conference wild card race. Yet as the season starts to wind down, the Flyers find themselves only one point behind the Pittsburgh Penguins for a playoff spot. Players like Brayden Schenn have been proving that the Flyers can make magic when everyone clicks and their abilities at full strength can be their best asset. It was an important win and gave the Flyers two points necessary for their playoff push. Read about the Flyers incredible win as well as injury updates on Tuesday’s edition of Buzz on the Street.
Flyers Get 5-3 Win Over Coyotes

There’s some irony, I guess, in today’s 4-2 Flyers win over the Arizona Coyotes. On one hand, the two points are crucial and the Flyers have — at least until later tonight — leap frogged the Devils and Hurricanes, and are just one point behind the Penguins for the final playoff spot in the East. (They are in action now against the Winnipeg Jets.) That’s really excellent and really awesome and exactly what we want to see. On the other hand, when defensemen Mark Streit has three points in the first period, and forward Sam Gagner plays like his hair is on fire against the team that traded him this summer, that’s also good news.
Brayden Schenn Has First Hat Trick of Career
Associated Pres for ESPN.com
Brayden Schenn’s career game sent hats flying in Philly. With more games like this one, Schenn could deliver the Flyers into the postseason. Schenn had his first career hat trick, scoring all three goals in the first two periods and leading Philadelphia past the Calgary Flames 5-3 Monday night. “They’re not easy,” Schenn said. “Goals are hard to come by in this league.” Not against Calgary. Claude Giroux had four assists and Wayne Simmonds scored twice for the Flyers, who have won three straight and four of five as they remain in the thick of the Eastern Conference playoff race.Live Feed class=inline-text id=inline-text-8

Philadelphia Flyers Don’t Make Any Moves At Deadline
Greg Paone for Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia
The lead-up to Monday’s 3 p.m. NHL trade deadline featured a flurry of talk about potential moves that could shake up the playoff races in each conference. But in the end, it was just that — talk. Unless you make out Mikkel Boedker’s move from Arizona to Colorado a major shake-up. Flyers general manger Ron Hextall admitted he did some of the talking, but nothing came to fruition that would improve his today and in the long term, which is what he was looking for. “We’ve said this all along — if we could make ourselves better today and not hurt our future, we’re all for it.” Hextall said Monday evening prior to the Flyers’ game against the Calgary Flames. “Nothing came up that made sense.

Philadelphia Flyers Overcome Big Weakness
Sam Carchidi for Philadelphia Inquirer
The Flyers have fixed a flaw, and it has helped vault them into the thick of the Eastern Conference playoff race. Up until late January, the Flyers struggled in games against lowly teams. But they have corrected that weakness. Their three wins to start the current homestand were against teams not in playoff spots: Minnesota, Arizona and Calgary. In their last 10 games against non-playoff teams, they are 7-1-2.
Flyers’ RW Jakub Voracek Out Two Weeks
ESPN.com news services
Philadelphia Flyers winger Jakub Voracek will miss at least two weeks with a lower-body injury, general manager Ron Hextall said Monday. Voracek, who leads the team in assists (38) and is second in points (48), suffered the injury after colliding with Minnesota goalie Devan Dubnyk on Thursday and has been wearing a boot on his left foot. Hextall told reporters Monday that Voracek will not need surgery.
